Everyday Histories - Aggie Toppins
Reception: June 12 | 6:30-8 pm
St. Lous Artists’ Guild 12 N Jackson Ave, St. Louis, MO 63105
June 12 - July 18, 2026
Aggie Toppins creates collage using materials found in archives, midcentury magazines, and daily life to index everyday experience and access the historical imagination. Toppins asks questions about how the past remains in the present, with a particular interest in gendered discourses of class. As a graphic designer by training, she is drawn to the polysemous potential of fragmentary forms. She combines her studio background with historical methods to position these fragments as primary sources. Upon revisiting, recombining, and reinterpreting these sources, she makes pictures that engage viewers in cognizant acts of translation.

True North - CB Adams
True North begins with a return. For more than fifteen years, I’ve walked North St. Louis, following light, form, and what remains as the landscape shifts. Many of these places now exist only in these prints. I feel that most in the darkroom, bringing the image forward while knowing the place itself has already slipped away. My great-grandmother lived in the neighborhood anchored by St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, and that history still holds in the streets and structures that remain. True North reflects a way of seeing that stays steady, unsentimental, and open to what persists.

Reverie in Tonalism - Tracey Mara and Harry Starr
July 8 - October 3, 2026
Reception: July 11 | 3-5 pm
Heartland Art Club 101A W Argonne Drive, Kirkwood, MO 63122
Poetic, tranquil, restful, harmonious, peaceful, reverie, dreamlike, enchanting, mysterious, romantic, and a sense of metamorphosis. All words to describe Tonalism.
Tonalism is a uniquely American art movement. A movement characterized by harmonious colors, introspective moods, and a romantic appreciation for nature. Tonalism originated as the cousin to Europe’s Impressionism, but in a more subdued and reverent mood. It has become the cornerstone of American landscape painting.
Harry Starr and Tracey Maras embrace the aesthetics of Tonalism in their work. Starr creates a sense of metamorphosis in each of his photographs. Whether landscape or still life, his pieces evoke mystery, enchantment, and elegance. Maras conveys an atmosphere of serenity and peaceful tranquility in her pastel paintings. Regardless of subject matter, there is a connectedness to nature.
Starr and Maras may utilize different mediums of artistic expression. However, their work shares a respect and reverence for nature. Themes that weave themselves throughout Tonalism.

Sue Giannotti: Unfolding
June 23 - July 25, 2026
Reception: July 11 | 3:30-5:30 pm
Gretchen Brigham Gallery, 733 Union Ave, St. Louis, MO 63108
In “Unfolding”, artist Sue Giannotti’s work shows both tactile dimensionality and a metaphorical journey of artistic evolution and discovery. Like unfolding a piece of paper or watching the curtain rising in the theater, there is a progression where we experience unknowing, then curiosity, and then revelation. Using individually hand-cut pieces of stone, Italian glass, and other elements, which are set one-at-a-time, Giannotti creates contemporary art that encourages the viewer to pause, experience the interaction of the materials and light, and find their own stories in the art.
While her artistic process usually includes sketches and poetry before heading to the mosaic table, for this exhibition Giannotti was drawn to reconnect with her artistic roots in the tactile media of paper and cloth (both which fold). This experimentation both enabled her to better hear herself again and resulted in her incorporating unique elements of folded glass in some of the works.
Diverging from previous exhibitions which focused on silence or the challenges of introversion, in Unfolding, Giannotti has chosen to bring the viewer along on the journey, process and evolution of discovery--and rediscovery-for the next chapter in the studio, while focusing on personal and universal themes such as perseverance, looking for the good, and staying true to oneself.
